A real world model

Modelling an ashtray

The task:

To model a small man-made object, that can be carried around. To work with the program and explore possibilities while working on a specific task. We should also consider lights and materials if time allows.

The result:

The modeling went very smoothly. It turned out to be quite straight forward to model the ‘ashtray’. If you read the analysis below, you will get a full understanding of how I managed to do it. All of my thoughts prior to modelling turned out to be right – luckily.

Afterwords I worked with the material – galvanized zinc. That was a bit trickier, and I never really got it to be the exact way I wanted. The same with the lights.

All in all, a fine little exercise that has taught me a lot about Maya.
